Things to do on your skiing holiday in Meran and Environs
Tobogganing
The three-kilometre-long toboggan run near Avelina invites you to try out this fun activity. It’s particularly suitable for families with children and descends from the Pfiffinger Köpfl mountain station through the snow-covered forest to the Falzeben valley station. Toboggans are available for hire at the ski rentals of the ski areas.
Cross-country skiing
Enjoy cross-country skiing under the South Tyrolean sun! The circular trail is situated at 1,640 metres above sea level, along the sunny Hafling high plateau. It starts below the valley station of the Hafling/Falzeben cable car, from where three kilometres of perfectly groomed trails wind through the winter forest.
Winter and snow-shoe hiking
Although we offer a private shuttle service to the cable car station, we are not a traditional ski hotel. We prefer to take things easy and consciously enjoy the moment. The unspoilt nature around Hafling is perfect for exploring the idyllic and quiet winter world. After a wonderful hike on the sunny Hafling high plateau, you can treat yourself to a well-deserved snack in one of the rustic mountain huts – or enjoy the dishes of Markus’ herbal kitchen.
Ski touring
If you prefer adventures off the slopes, this is the right place, as you’ll find plenty of ski touring trails. Discover, for example, the routes to the Stoaner Mandl hut or to the Kuhleiten hut. When the landscape is covered by a thick blanket of snow, a very special atmosphere settles in: the air is cool and crisp, and the snow crunches underfoot. Get out and experience nature.
Ice-skating and ice hockey
In the surrounding area, you’ll find several idyllic ice rinks, including the Hafling ice rink not far from the Avelina and the ice rink in front of the Meran thermal baths (only during the Christmas season), offering hours of fun on the ice. Other ice rinks:
- Meranarena in Meran
- Near Lana, in the romantic Gaul Canyon
- In the Val d’Ultimo/Ultental valley, in front of the Schwemmalm ski area near Kuppelwies
- In the village of Schenna
Horse-drawn sleigh ride
A one-of-a-kind experience: be enchanted by the romantic atmosphere on a winter horse-drawn sleigh ride with the local Haflinger horses. You’ll remember this experience for a very long time.
Sightseeing
South Tyrolean towns and villages are charming also in winter. Stroll through the shopping streets, warm up with a cup of mulled wine, and visit the various Christmas markets, for example the Christmas markets in Meran, Dorf Tirol, or Lana.
